Weight Loss Through Acupuncture

Slimming through acupuncture

Acupuncture, a Traditional Chinese Medicine treatment, is proven to have good slimming effects. It achieves weight loss through 3 main functions:

Increase your metabolic rate

By increasing your metabolic rate, your body burns off the calories from the food that you consume more effectively. In this way the excess calories will not accumulate in your body and hence reduces the chance of building up unwanted fat (lipid) in your body.

Dissolve the saturated fatty component in your body

Acupuncture has the effect of dissolving the saturated fatty component in your body. Through the use of electro-needle during acupuncture, it will speed up the process of disintegrating the saturated lipid. Besides electro-needle, cupping can be added to enhance the overall effect. Include in your schedule to exercise regularly, each time at least 30 min, will further enhance the results.

Curb your appetite

Slimming through acupuncture can curb your appetite to a certain extent. After a few acupuncture sessions, you will notice that you snack less. While you do not need to go on diet when you are undergoing the treatment, you must be mindful of your food intake. Take your meals regularly, each time 20-30% lesser in quantity. In this way, it is less likely for you to gain back your weight when the treatment ends. Abstain from junk food totally since such food is often high in calories. Alternatively, change your eating habits. It is proven that if you eat a number of small meals per day, each time reduced quantity; it helps a great deal in weight loss. In this way, you do not feel hungry easily and at the same time, you get to eat the food that you want. Bear in mind, smaller quantity each time. How much is “small quantity”? 50% of your usual amount.

Ear acupuncture therapy (耳针). Ear acupuncture therapy can prolong the slimming effect. This is done after each acupuncture treatment session. Small plasters containing a tiny seed will be placed on the acu-points on your outer ear by your physician. You will press on the tiny seeds periodically. In this way, the acupuncture slimming effects will be prolonged during the days when you not having the treatment sessions.

Here at Thomson Chinese Medicine, we believe in the overall wellness of the individual. While slimming is the main objective during treatment process, your main organs, especially your Spleen and Stomach that form your digestive system will be regulated to perform optimally. Some patients feedback that their sleep quality were enhanced while others notice that they feel more rejuvenated after the treatment.

While acupuncture is effective for slimming, perseverance from the individual is required. At least 2-3 acupuncture sessions per week are needed in order achieve the desired results. This is coupled with a regular exercise regime and a healthier diet habit.
